Zinc Sulfate is an essential mineral that contributes to immune defense by its role in the development and function of many immune processes. Supplementing with this mineral may help combat infections and aid wound healing. Ascorbic Acid (vitamin C) is a strong antioxidant that contributes to immune defense by supporting various cellular functions of both the innate and adaptive immune system. Side Effects/Precautions: Glutathione is not recommended for use by individuals with asthma, due to the possibility of increasing its symptoms. There is not enough information on the impact of this medication on individuals who are pregnant or breastfeeding; therefore use is not advised. It is important to talk with your healthcare provider before starting to supplement glutathione to ensure it is the right solution for you. Glutathione may interact with some medications. It is always important to list any medications, supplements or herbal products you may be taking for your doctor.


The common adverse effect to watch out for is zinc toxicity. This may occur through an increased ingestion of zinc or a reduced excretion. Toxic levels of zinc in the human body is typically associated with a marked decrease in serum copper levels. Some of the clinical features that may arise as a result of zinc toxicity are hematemesis, hematuria, acute tubular necrosis, sideroblastic anemia, granulocytopenia, diarrhea, and myelodysplastic syndrome, among others.


Ascorbic acid is generally nontoxic. Adverse reactions that have been reported include flushing, headache, nausea/vomiting, and abdominal cramps. Diarrhea has resulted from oral dosages of more than 1 gram daily. Dizziness and faintness can result from rapid administration of IV ascorbic acid.
