Weight Loss Patient Update

At Nervana Medical, we’re committed to keeping our patients informed and supported through every change in healthcare. With President Trump’s recent initiative to make GLP-1 medications like semaglutide and tirzepatide more affordable, our current medical weight loss program may or may not remain the most cost-effective option for every patient.

We’re genuinely excited about the potential for lower pricing and remain dedicated to helping you find the most affordable, safe, and effective path for your health journey.

Our team continues to believe that lasting weight-loss success comes from more than just medication. That’s why our Concierge Weight Loss Memberships combine prescription management with nutrition, hormone optimization, metabolic testing, aesthetics (for that Ozempic face 😉), and mental wellness support—all under the care of licensed providers and registered dieticians.

However, if you prefer to focus solely on medication without ongoing concierge support, our providers can now call in your GLP-1 prescription to the retail or compounding pharmacy of your choice for as low as $75 per month, provided that clinical criteria are met.

Eligibility for Retail GLP-1 Prescriptions

In accordance with FDA-approved indications and standard medical guidelines, GLP-1 medications such as semaglutide (Wegovy®) and tirzepatide (Zepbound®) are approved for chronic weight management in adults who meet one of the following criteria:

  • Body Mass Index (BMI) ≥ 30, or
  • BMI ≥ 27 with an obesity-related comorbidity, such as:
    • Hypertension
    • Type 2 diabetes or insulin resistance
    • Dyslipidemia
    • Obstructive sleep apnea
    • Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS)

Additionally, patients must:

  • Complete a recent medical evaluation (and labs if indicated) confirming safety for therapy.
  • Demonstrate tolerance and stability on their current dose if previously prescribed through Nervana Medical.

Important Notes on Dosing and Formulation Variability

When filling through a retail or compounding pharmacy, please be aware that:

  • Formulations and dosing strengths may vary from those used in our in-office program.
  • Titration schedules may differ from FDA-approved or clinic-monitored regimens (which we typically individually customize).
  • Compounded versions may  include the added nutrients (such as B6 or B12) that can help mitigate nausea or fatigue, branded versions do not.
  • Brand availability and pricing fluctuate frequently—and some of the “discount” programs circulating online include lengthy fine print. Please ensure what you read carefully,
  • Nervana Medical cannot guarantee retail pricing and is not responsible for verifying or managing outside pharmacy costs. Medication cost and supplies will ALL be dealth with separately between the patient and the pharmacy.

While we believe our comprehensive program offers long-term benefits—including dietician support, vitamin optimization, and resting metabolic rate assessments—it’s ultimately up to you to decide where you place value and where you’d like your prescription called in. We’ll continue to do our best in helping identify which pharmacy options appear most cost-effective as pricing evolves in the coming months.

Off-Label Use and Comprehensive Management

Nervana Medical specializes in advanced weight management that extends far beyond the prescription itself. Our providers:

  • Explore adjunctive therapies when GLP-1/GIP progress plateaus.
  • Evaluate/trend labs for patients using these medications for off-label indications, including lipid disorders, autoimmune conditions, and metabolic inflammation to help decipher best dosing practices until further studies evolve that better guide practice.
  • Monitor for hormone and vitamin optimization, manage potential side effects (such as hair loss or fatigue), and tailor nutrition and exercise through personalized dietician and metabolic testing support.

There are many advantages to continuing care within a structured program like ours, compared to simply receiving a prescription from a primary care provider.

Nervana Medical providers may adjust or limit dosing to maintain safety, consistency, and clinical outcomes across formulations.

At Nervana Medical, our priority is ensuring that every patient receives safe, effective, and affordable care. Whether you remain in our Comprehensive Concierge Program or transition to a retail pharmacy plan, our team will continue to guide you toward the most responsible and sustainable approach for your goals.
