Thyroid / Endocrine Lab Testing

Changes in your weight, energy, mood, or temperature can often be traced back to your thyroid. At Nervana Medical, our Thyroid / Endocrine Lab Panel is designed to evaluate how well your thyroid is functioning and identify imbalances that may be affecting your overall health.

This comprehensive panel measures key thyroid hormones and antibodies to help detect both overactive and underactive thyroid conditions, with reflex testing included at no additional cost when needed.

Understanding Thyroid Function

The thyroid is a small, butterfly-shaped gland located at the front of your neck, but it plays a powerful role in your body. Thyroid function is regulated by the pituitary gland, which produces thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) and releases it into the bloodstream. TSH signals the thyroid to produce thyroid hormones T3 and T4, which control how your body uses energy.

Proper thyroid function influences many essential systems, including:

  • Body temperature regulation
  • Heart rate and breathing
  • Skin and muscle function
  • Weight gain or loss
  • Brain development and cognitive function
  • Cholesterol levels
  • Menstrual cycles
  • Nervous system health

When thyroid hormone levels are too high or too low, even subtle imbalances can impact how you feel day to day.

What This Test Measures

The Thyroid / Endocrine Lab Panel includes the following tests:

  • TSH (Thyroid-Stimulating Hormone)
  • Thyroid Peroxidase Antibody
  • Free T3
  • Free T4
  • Venipuncture

If TSH results fall outside the normal range, T4 reflex testing is automatically performed at no additional cost to further evaluate thyroid function.

Why Thyroid Testing Matters

Thyroid disorders can affect nearly every system in the body. Left undiagnosed or untreated, thyroid imbalances may increase the risk of:

  • Cardiovascular disease
  • Osteoporosis
  • Infertility
  • Metabolic dysfunction
  • Mood and cognitive changes

The good news is that most thyroid conditions are highly manageable once properly diagnosed, often with medication and ongoing monitoring.

How to Prepare for Your Test

Certain supplements and medications can interfere with thyroid lab results. To ensure the most accurate testing, we recommend discontinuing supplements and vitamins for one week prior to your lab draw, unless otherwise directed by your provider.
