PRF/EZ Gel in Sandy, UT

What is PRF/EZ-Gel?

PRF (Platelet-Rich Fibrin) is an advanced regenerative treatment derived from your blood. It contains a mixture of growth factors, cytokines, and healing proteins. These components promote natural healing and rejuvenation by stimulating collagen production, enhancing skin texture, tone, and elasticity. The unique aspect of PRF is its fibrin matrix, which acts as a scaffold for skin cells, slowly releasing growth factors over a period of 7-10 days. This prolonged release provides lasting regenerative signals, making it more effective than traditional Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) treatments.

EZ-Gel is a specially formulated preparation that transforms the components of PRF into a gel-like consistency. This allows for precise application to targeted areas, facilitating natural volumization and enhanced stimulation of collagen production.

Benefits of PRF/EZ-Gel

  • Reduces fine lines and wrinkles: Stimulates natural collagen and elastin production to smooth wrinkles around the eyes, mouth, and forehead, diminishing visible signs of aging without artificial fillers.
  • Enhances skin texture and tone: Improves overall skin quality by addressing uneven texture, enlarged pores, acne scars, and hyperpigmentation, revealing smoother, more uniform skin with a healthy, natural radiance.
  • Promotes natural collagen production: Activates your body’s fibroblasts to generate new collagen over time, creating progressive improvement that continues for months after treatment and helps restore your skin’s structural foundation.
  • Minimizes downtime: As a minimally invasive procedure using your own biological material, most patients experience only mild redness and swelling that typically resolves within 1-3 days, allowing you to return to daily activities quickly.
  • Long-lasting, natural results: Delivers gradual, authentic-looking improvement that develops over 2-3 months as your body builds new collagen, with results that can last 12-18 months or longer with proper maintenance.
  • Safe and biocompatible: Because PRF is derived entirely from your own blood, there’s virtually no risk of allergic reaction, rejection, or adverse immune response, making it suitable for most skin types and ages.
  • Versatile treatment areas: Can be used on the face, neck, décolletage, hands, and even delicate areas, addressing multiple concerns, including under-eye hollows, acne scarring, and loss of facial volume.

How It Works

The PRF/EZ Gel treatment involves the following steps:

Blood Draw

A small amount of your blood (typically 10-20ml, similar to routine lab work) is drawn from your arm using a standard medical technique. This quick, simple step takes just a few minutes and causes minimal discomfort.

Processing

Your blood sample is placed in a specialized centrifuge and spun at a carefully calibrated speed and duration. This process separates the blood components by density, isolating the concentrated layer of platelets, fibrin, growth factors, and white blood cells while removing red blood cells. The result is a golden, gel-like substance rich in your body’s most powerful healing and regenerative elements. Unlike traditional PRP, the PRF processing method requires no additives or anticoagulants, keeping the preparation completely natural.

Application

The PRF/EZ-Gel is then skillfully applied to your skin through one or more specialized techniques based on your specific treatment goals. Options include microneedling (where the PRF is infused into microchannels created in the skin), direct injection into targeted areas for volumization and wrinkle reduction, or topical application following laser or other resurfacing treatments. Your provider will customize the application method and treatment areas to address your unique concerns and desired outcomes, whether that’s smoothing fine lines, improving skin texture, or restoring lost facial volume.

Healing and Regeneration

Over the following days and weeks, the growth factors and cytokines in the PRF begin their regenerative work. The fibrin matrix slowly releases these healing signals, stimulating your fibroblasts to produce new collagen and elastin, improving blood flow to the treated areas, and encouraging cellular turnover. You’ll notice gradual improvement in skin quality, with optimal results typically visible 2-3 months post-treatment as the new collagen matures.

What to Expect: Timeline and Results

  • Immediately after treatment: You may experience mild redness, swelling, and possible bruising at injection or treatment sites. This is a normal part of the healing response and typically resolves within 1-3 days.
  • First 1-2 weeks: Initial healing occurs as the PRF begins releasing growth factors. Some patients notice improved skin hydration and a subtle “glow” during this phase.
  • 4-6 weeks: Collagen production accelerates. You’ll begin to see improvements in skin texture, tone, and firmness as new collagen forms.
  • 2-3 months: Optimal results become visible as collagen remodeling continues. Fine lines soften, skin texture smooths, and overall skin quality improves. Many patients describe their skin as looking “refreshed” and “naturally rejuvenated.”
  • Maintenance: Results typically last 12-18 months. For sustained benefits, many patients choose to schedule follow-up treatments 2-4 times per year, building cumulative improvement over time.

What Makes EZ Gel Different From PRP or PRF

EZ Gel is created from platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) but processed further to form a gel matrix made from albumin and fibrin.

This structure creates several advantages:

• Longer structural support compared with liquid PRF
• Slower release of growth factors over time
• Mild volumization without synthetic fillers
• Improved tissue regeneration

PRP releases most growth factors within minutes to hours, while PRF releases them over 7–10 days, and EZ Gel provides additional structural support while regeneration occurs.

Growth Factors Involved

EZ Gel contains numerous regenerative signaling molecules including:

• PDGF (platelet-derived growth factor)
• TGF-β (transforming growth factor beta)
• VEGF (vascular endothelial growth factor)
• EGF (epidermal growth factor)

These growth factors help stimulate:

• collagen synthesis
• fibroblast activity
• angiogenesis (new blood vessels)
• improved skin thickness and elasticity

This is why patients often notice improved skin quality, not just volume.

Areas Where EZ Gel Is Commonly Used

In aesthetic medicine, EZ Gel is often used for:

• tear troughs / under-eye hollowing
• fine lines and wrinkles
• cheek skin rejuvenation
• neck and décolleté skin thinning
• perioral lines
• acne scarring
• temple hollowing (mild)

Because it is soft and natural, it is particularly useful in delicate areas where traditional filler may be risky, such as the under-eye region.

Why Some Injectors Prefer It for Tear Troughs

Traditional hyaluronic acid fillers can sometimes cause:

• prolonged swelling
• Tyndall effect (bluish discoloration)
• lymphatic congestion

EZ Gel may reduce these risks because:

• it is autologous (from the patient)
• it integrates into the tissue
• it stimulates collagen instead of simply occupying space

However, it does require multiple treatments for optimal improvement.

Treatment Timeline

Unlike traditional fillers that provide immediate results, EZ Gel works gradually.

Typical timeline:

Week 1–2: Early tissue hydration and mild improvement

Weeks 3–6: Collagen stimulation begins

Weeks 8–12: Visible improvement in skin thickness and texture

Most patients complete 2–4 treatments spaced 4–6 weeks apart.

Ideal Candidates

EZ Gel works best for patients with:

• mild to moderate tear trough hollowing
• thin under-eye skin
• dark circles related to volume loss
• early signs of skin aging
• patients wanting natural or regenerative treatments

It may not be ideal for patients with severe structural volume loss, who may still benefit from traditional filler or fat grafting.

Combination Treatments

EZ Gel is frequently combined with other treatments to improve results:

• microneedling or RF microneedling
• PRF injections
• laser resurfacing
• neuromodulators
• biostimulatory fillers

This layered approach helps address both skin quality and structural aging.

Safety Advantages

Because EZ Gel is made from the patient’s own blood:

• allergic reactions are extremely rare
• no synthetic materials are used
• lower risk of vascular occlusion compared to fillers

However, proper injection technique is still critical.

Hydration Matters

Hydration directly impacts PRF yield and quality.

Patients who are well hydrated typically produce:

• higher platelet concentration
• better fibrin structure
• improved regenerative potential

This is why patients are often advised to increase water intake for 48–72 hours before treatment.

Why EZ Gel Is Growing in Popularity

Several aesthetic trends are driving increased adoption:

• patient demand for natural treatments
• concerns about filler fatigue or migration
• interest in regenerative aesthetics
• preference for subtle, progressive improvement

Rather than replacing fillers entirely, EZ Gel is becoming part of a regenerative treatment strategy.

Interesting Industry Trend

Many experts in regenerative aesthetics believe treatments like:

• PRF
• EZ Gel
• exosomes
• PDGF

represent the next phase of biologic aesthetic medicine, where the goal is not just filling tissue but restoring healthy skin function.

As aesthetic medicine continues to evolve, treatments like EZ Gel represent an exciting shift toward regenerative approaches that work with the body rather than simply masking signs of aging. By using growth factors and proteins derived from your own blood, EZ Gel supports collagen production, improves skin quality, and provides subtle volume restoration in delicate areas such as the tear troughs. While it may not replace traditional fillers in every situation, it offers a powerful option for patients seeking natural, gradual, and biologically driven rejuvenation. At Nervana Medical in Sandy, Utah, we believe the best aesthetic results come from personalized treatment plans that combine advanced technology, medical expertise, and regenerative therapies to help patients look refreshed while still looking like themselves.

Pre-Appointment Instructions

  • If you develop a fever, cold, or flu; a cold sore; a blemish; or a rash in the area to be treated prior to your appointment, you must reschedule. We will not treat you if you are ill or have compromised skin, as this can affect healing and increase the risk of complications.
  • Schedule your appointment at least 2 weeks before a special event or vacation (3–4 weeks is preferred) to allow time for healing and to see initial results. Remember that optimal results develop gradually over 2-3 months.
  • If you are being treated in the lip area and have a history of cold sores (Herpes Simplex Virus) with more than 4 outbreaks per year, pretreatment with antiviral medication is recommended to prevent an outbreak triggered by treatment. This office advises Valtrex 2 grams the day before or the morning of treatment, followed by another 2 grams 12 hours later. Please let us know if you need a prescription.
  • Discontinue anti-inflammatory drugs such as Aspirin, Motrin, Advil, Aleve, or any ibuprofen-based medications for at least 3 days to 1 week before treatment. PRF works through controlled inflammation to trigger your body’s healing response, so we do not want these medications to interfere with the regenerative process. If you take these medications for a medical condition, consult your prescribing physician before stopping.
  • If you are or have been on systemic corticosteroids (oral or injectable steroids such as prednisone) within the past 2 weeks, you cannot be treated, as steroids suppress the inflammatory response necessary for PRF to work effectively. Please consult your physician about discontinuing steroids before scheduling your treatment.
  • Stop blood-thinning supplements such as Vitamin E, Vitamin A, Gingko Biloba, Garlic, Flax Oil, Cod Liver Oil, Fish Oil, or essential fatty acids (EFAs/DHAs) at least 3 days to 1 week before and after treatment to minimize bruising and bleeding. If you take prescription blood thinners (such as Coumadin or Plavix), do not stop them without consulting your physician first.
  • Avoid alcohol, caffeine, niacin supplements, spicy foods, and cigarettes for 3 days before and after treatment, as these may increase blood flow and the risk of bruising or swelling.
  • Stay well hydrated for 24–48 hours before your appointment by drinking at least 64 ounces of water daily. Proper hydration helps us obtain higher-quality plasma with more concentrated growth factors, supporting optimal healing.
  • The healthier you are, the better your results will be. Your body’s healing capacity directly impacts the quality of your PRF and your skin’s response to treatment. Eating a nutrient-rich diet full of protein, vitamins, and antioxidants, exercising regularly, getting quality sleep, and avoiding smoking or excessive alcohol use can significantly improve your outcome.
  • Eat a healthy meal before your appointment to maintain steady blood sugar levels and ensure you feel comfortable during the procedure.

Post-Appointment Instructions

  • Do not touch, press, rub, or manipulate the treated area for at least 8 hours after your treatment. This allows the PRF to remain in place and begin its regenerative work without being disturbed or displaced.
  • Avoid anti-inflammatory medications such as Aspirin, Motrin, Ibuprofen, Advil, Aleve, and steroids for at least 3–7 days after your procedure. Inflammation is a crucial part of the healing process that makes PRP and EZ Gel effective. Suppressing this response can reduce your results.
  • Avoid supplements such as Gingko Biloba, Garlic, Flax Oil, Cod Liver Oil, Fish Oil, Vitamin A, Vitamin E, or any other essential fatty acids for 3 days to 1 week after treatment to minimize prolonged bruising.
  • If you experience discomfort or pain, you may take Tylenol (acetaminophen) or other acetaminophen-based products. These do not interfere with the inflammatory healing process like NSAIDs do.
  • You may apply ice to the treated area for 20–30 minutes after the procedure if desired to reduce swelling, but do not apply ice directly to the skin. Use a clean cloth or towel as a barrier. Avoid prolonged or excessive icing, which may reduce the beneficial inflammatory response.
  • Do not wash or shower for at least 6 hours after treatment to allow the PRF to fully absorb into the skin. Do not apply lotions, creams, serums, or makeup for at least 6 hours, and avoid harsh or active skincare ingredients (retinol, acids, etc.) for 3-5 days.
  • Avoid vigorous exercise, sun exposure, tanning beds, and heat sources (sauna, hot tub, steam room) for at least 3 days after your treatment. These activities increase blood flow and inflammation beyond the therapeutic level and may cause increased swelling or bruising.
  • Avoid alcohol, caffeine, and cigarettes for 3 days before and after your treatment. Smoking impairs blood flow and oxygen delivery to tissues, which can significantly delay healing and reduce the quality of your results.
  • Drink at least 64 ounces of water on the day of your treatment. Continue to increase water intake (8-10 glasses daily) for at least 1 week after to support optimal cellular function, collagen synthesis, and healing.
  • Mild swelling, redness, itching, tenderness, soreness, or bruising is normal and may last 3–10 days. These are signs that your body’s healing response is activated. Bruising, if it occurs, typically fades within 1-2 weeks. Applying arnica gel or taking oral arnica supplements may help reduce bruising duration.

Special note for microneedling with PRF: If you had PRF with microneedling, do not wash the PRF off for at least 5–8 hours (overnight is ideal if possible) to maximize absorption. Avoid heat exposure on the face during this time, as it may reduce efficacy. You may experience more redness and mild peeling for 3-5 days following microneedling, which is a normal part of the skin renewal process.
