Supartz FX Pre-Procedure Guidelines

- Unlike PRP, you may continue anti-inflammatory medications such as Ibuprofen, Motrin, Naproxen, or Aleve before a Supartz FX injection.
- Tell us about any allergy to birds, feathers, or egg products before your first injection, as Supartz FX is avian-derived.
- Let us know about any blood-thinning medication you take, and about any active infection, cut, or rash on or near the knee.
- Plan for the full series. Injections are given roughly one week apart, so map out three to five consecutive weeks before you start.
- Wear loose pants or shorts to each visit so the knee is easy to access.
- On the day of each injection, eat normally and drink plenty of water, and plan to take the rest of the day easy.

Supartz FX: Post-Procedure Guidelines
Most patients drive themselves home after each injection. Plan to take it easy for the rest of that day, avoiding strenuous activity, prolonged standing, running, and heavy lifting for the first 48 hours so the injection settles into the joint.

Mild soreness, warmth, stiffness, or swelling in the knee is common for a day or two after each injection and is not a cause for concern. Gentle movement is encouraged, since normal walking helps distribute the hyaluronic acid through the joint. Ice can be applied for 15 to 20 minutes at a time if the knee feels sore.
In the first few days after each Supartz FX injection, please avoid the following:
- Strenuous or high-impact activity such as running, jumping, heavy squats, or long hikes for 48 hours
- Hot tubs, saunas, and swimming pools for 48 hours, to reduce infection risk at the injection site
- Prolonged standing or weight-bearing beyond what is comfortable
Other Important Guidelines to Follow Between Your Supartz FX Injections
- Keep the injection site clean and dry for the first 24 hours after each visit
- You may take acetaminophen or an anti-inflammatory such as Ibuprofen for soreness unless your provider has told you otherwise
- Avoid consumption of any alcoholic beverages for the first 24 hours after each injection
- Keep your weekly appointments. Spacing the injections out too far can reduce how well the series works
- Call our office if you develop a fever, increasing redness, significant swelling, or pain that worsens rather than improves after 72 hours
What to Expect Across the Series
Supartz FX works cumulatively, so patience matters. Some patients feel a difference after the second or third injection, while others notice the change mostly after the series is complete. Judge the treatment on how your knee feels in the weeks after the final injection, not after the first one.
- Stay active between injections, favoring low-impact movement such as walking, cycling, or swimming
- Continue any physical therapy or strengthening program. Hyaluronic acid works best alongside strong quadriceps and hip muscles
- Keep track of how the knee feels from week to week so we can adjust the plan if needed
