Important Update to Nervana Medical Weight-Loss Patients
There have been recent national pricing changes affecting GLP-1 medications such as tirzepatide and semaglutide. Because of these changes, brand-name medications (Wegovy, Ozempic, Zepbound, etc.) available through retail pharmacies may now be cheaper in certain situations, depending on your dose, medical history, and treatment response. In other cases, compounded formulations remain the most cost-effective option.
Since pricing has proven to no longer be as predictable or uniform, Nervana Medical will be transitioning all patients away from monthly membership pricing and instead moving to a per-vial medication model or into our Medical Concierge Program, depending on your treatment pathway.
How This New Structure Benefits You
Patients will now:
✔ Pay for the medication dispensed rather than being dispensed monthly or bi monthly or quarterly with monthly membership withdrawls
✔ Receive dosing customized to medical response
✔ Know the true cost-per-mg of medication
✔ Have access to lower retail pricing when applicable
All compounded medications will be shipped directly to you, and refills should be scheduled at least one week in advance to ensure provider availability and shipping turnaround.
Retail vs. Compounded Medication Pathways
Retail/Brand Name GLP-1s (e.g., Wegovy®, Zepbound®, Ozempic®)
May be cheaper if you:
– Meet FDA weight-loss criteria
– Take standard labeled doses
– Do not require microdosing or non-standard titration
– Have obesity-related health conditions
Retail prescribing is available only through Medical Concierge, because this level of prescribing requires monitoring, dose adjustments, access coordination, prior authorization review when needed, and symptom/ additional chronic condition management with option for functional optimization.
Concierge patients receive:
- Guaranteed scheduling flexibility
- Higher-level medical support and follow-up
- Pharmacy coordination
- Nervana Contracted pricing when applicable
Compounded GLP-1 Formulations
These are often better when patients are:
🟣 Microdosing
🟣 Treating metabolic concerns beyond weight loss
🟣 Tapering or cycling medication
🟣 Transitioning dose levels
🟣 Sensitive to medication side effects
🟣 Have more favorable side effect profile with additional additives (i.e. B12, glycine, b-6,etc.) in compounded formula
Compounded medications will now be billed per vial, meaning cost varies based on:
▪ Strength/concentration
▪ Size of vial
▪ How long it lasts based on dosing
Higher-concentration vials typically cost less per mg, even though the upfront price may be higher.
Eligibility Criteria for Retail GLP-1 Prescribing
FDA-approved criteria include:
BMI ≥ 30, OR
BMI ≥ 27 plus one of the following:
– Hypertension
– Type 2 diabetes or insulin resistance
– Dyslipidemia
– PCOS
– Obstructive sleep apnea
Patients not meeting criteria generally remain on compounded formulations.
Long-Term Patient Benefits
If you have completed 12 months of treatment at Nervana, you will receive:
✨ 10% off aesthetic services
✨ 10% off esthetician services
✨ 10% off registered dietitian services
We offer this because weight loss often requires aesthetic and metabolic support during and afterward, and we believe in full-circle care.
What Happens at Your Next Refill
When your next refill is due, we will determine whether:
✔ Compounded medication is most cost-effective
OR
✔ Retail medication provides better pricing and access
You will then transition into:
🟣 Per-vial compounded dosing or
🔵 Medical Concierge for retail or compounded prescribing
This ensures pricing reflects your actual needs—not an average membership price—and helps you stay on a plan that is medically appropriate, cost-conscious, and optimized.
Bottom Line
Our goal remains the same:
